Why Are Healthy Snacks Important?

Healthy snacking improves overall health, curbs cravings, fights weight gain, regulates mood, boosts brain power and gives you the energy you need to keep going all day.

Resisting the urge to reach for a burger, candy, or chips when you're hit with a snack attack can make a big difference in your health — regardless of your age.

Prevents Overeating

Snacking helps keep you from getting overly hungry in between meals and then overeating at your next meal. So next time you start to feel hungry a couple hours before lunch or dinner, don't try to wait until the meal. Instead, eat a small healthy snack to tide you over. Combine fruits or vegetables with protein foods like nuts or dairy products for the most filling snacks.

Curb Your Cravings

Blood sugar dips three to five hours after you eat. Eating small, frequent snacks keeps your metabolism revved up and helps normalize blood sugar. Hunger can throw your body into famine mode, which slows metabolism and makes it easier to pack on the pounds.

Considerations

Don't snack right before a meal, and only eat a snack if you are truly hungry. Snacking out of boredom or for other emotional reasons isn't healthy and can lead to overeating and weight gain. Most snacks should be around 100 calories.

Here's my list of the top times you should snack and the one interesting time you should skip it...

  • You should snack…anytime you are going more than 4 hours between meals. Four hours is about the maximum amount of time you should have between meals. If you go longer than that, your metabolism will slow down, your blood sugar will drop, and by the time you finally do eat, you will be so ravenous that it will be hard to make good choices and you will be at risk of overeating. So make sure that you always have a healthy snack on hand for times when meal times get delayed unexpectedly.

  • You should snack…before bed. Yep! I said it- you can have a bedtime snack! Eating a small snack before bed won’t “turn straight into fat.” In fact, if it’s been several hours since dinner, having a small snack before bed can help you sleep better! But what you choose for that snack is super important!

PROTEIN MAY HELP REGULATE YOUR APPETITE.
Consuming protein can help you feel fuller throughout the night and make you want to eat less the next morning.
Casein may prove to be the better overnight option; in one study, overweight women felt fuller after consuming casein compared to those who ate whey or carbs at night.
Having a casein snack before bed may actually reduce the amount of food you eat overall!

So lets make this easy by introducing the more convenient option to all the questions;
